First Sale!

Well, I finally got to hear that sweet, sweet KA-CHING! sound my phone makes when I have sold an item!  Holy moly, I jumped up and got so excited!  The best part?  This item was on auction, and the buyer just bought it at the BIN price with no bid!  I went and sent an invoice right away, hopefully payment comes soon so I can ship this item and get it out of my house!

Good-Bye, Chatter Phone!

Now I have the concern that the buyer won't pay.  I'm waiting for PayPal to tell me that payment has been received.  I put on the invoice that the buyer has a week for payment.  Do you guys ever have an issue with the buyer not paying for an item?  How do you deal with that?  This eBay world is such an emotional roller coaster!

Hope you all are having a great week!

  1. Hi Lindsay! Thanks for the follow and good luck with your blog and with selling on ebay. A week for payment is very generous. I put that "payment is appreciated within 4 days for auction items and immediate payment is required for Buy It Now items." If you don't have a Premiere Paypal account, you can't require Buy It Now. I just found that out. You can open an unpaid item case after 3 days, but if your invoice says a week, then that would be unfair to your buyer. Most of the time they pay. I believe that ebay sends them a reminder after 3 days. You might want to check your "communications with buyers" setting to see if you have that box checked. Let us know what happens.

    1. I checked, I have that box checked. I don't understand why someone wouldn't just pay immediately after purchase... This person has 100% feedback but someone says he didn't pay or communicate but rated him positive? And from now on I will do 4 days. I looked online and saw a couple people saying a week, so that's what I went with, but that seems far too long! Thanks Lorraine!

    2. Sellers are only allowed to give positive feedback to buyers. We used to be able to leave negative feedback, but ebay changed their policy. Even if you try and write a negative comment, ebay can remove it at the buyer's request. We really have no way of knowing if a buyer is bad or not which is a risk we take every time we make a sale.

  2. I don't often have non-payers but if I do I open a case in the Resolution Center as soon as I am allowed (2 days) and that *typically* will spur payment. Then there are conspiracy theories that non-payers are other sellers trying to get rid of competition. I think its more buyers remorse. Hopefully you won't have to deal with that. 1 week is really generous. Glad the chatter phone sold....I just picked one up at a yard sale last week :D But otherwise WOOHOO on the sale :D

  3. I've had about 3 non-payers in the 4 mos. that I've been doing this full-time. Don't understand it, either. They had solid feedback. Two of them never did pay, even after I opened a case. One of them did. So, I open a case if not paid in 3-4 days, wait out ebay's 4 days, than close it out. That's about all you can do.

    1. Yeah, really took the wind out of my sails to have my very first eBay sale result in a claim. Buyer never paid, never responded to messages or communication. Upsetting to say the least. Oh well, that's the way it goes I suppose.
